Industry Insights – Online Music Sync Workshops
We’ve teamed up with independent publishers, Cavendish, for our latest series of online music industry workshops
We are delighted to announce a new series of online workshops that seek to unlock music sync and licensing opportunities for women, trans and nonbinary people.
Presented in partnership with Cavendish Music, sessions in this three-month series will offer emerging artists a space to connect and explore the landscape of modern production music, supporting them to build professionalism and sustainability in their creative careers.
Workshops will take place this September, October and November and will be led by representatives from the Cavendish family. Hosts include the independent music publisher’s Head of Strategy and Operations, Joanna Gregory (17 Sep), the Composer Amy Mcknight (28 Oct), Production Assistant, Róisín Doyle-Bakare (27 Nov).
The residency is the latest in a series of collaborations between Saffron and its allies in the industry that aim to offer alternative networks of support for underrepresented people in music. Workshops are open to individuals of all experience levels and can be accessed via subscription to Saffron’s digital Members Club, or by booking a ticket, with bursary spaces available.
WORKSHOP SCHEDULE
23 Sep: An Intro to Sync w/ Joanna Gregory
Want to make money from your music and broaden your exposure as an artist? Sync licensing presents a brilliant opportunity for independent music creators to develop sustainability in their careers by placing their tracks in adverts and other visual media. In this online workshop hosted by Joanna Gregory (Head of Strategy and Operations at Cavendish Music), we will introduce you to the burgeoning landscape of music sync and licensing, so you can get a feel for whether it’s right for you.
28 Oct: Writing for Sync: Music Briefs w/ Amy McKnight
In this session, Amy will be providing a composer’s perspective of the process of working on a sync brief from the beginning stages to completion. She will explore the balance of artistic integrity and client-centredness, sharing her dos and don’ts for working with commercial partners and supervisors, in addition to offering her tips for getting your foot through the door. She will share her thoughts on how working for clients has helped her develop as a music creator, speaking to the beauty of briefs, deadlines and creative constraints.
27 Nov: A&R Feedback Session – w/ Róisín Doyle-Bakare & Tammy Tinawi
A&R sessions provide a brilliant opportunity to get feedback direct from the very people you would be pitching to in the industry. This fun and interactive session is a chance to connect with experienced music library producers who can help you shine in the world of production music.
What can you expect? We’ll dive into the world of music library publishing, sharing all the insider knowledge you need to succeed. Learn about the professional standards and expectations, and get practical tips on how to present your work like a pro. We’ll talk about everything from creating standout tracks to the nuances of navigating the production music landscape.

Access to these sessions is free for sustainer and soulmate members of Saffron’s online community, Saffron Members Club. If you are unable to afford a ticket but believe you would benefit from attending these workshops, please email us on members@saffronmusic.co.uk.
Workshops are open to people worldwide but will be running at 7.30 pm UK time so please bear differences in time zone in mind. If you purchase a ticket but aren’t able to attend live, you will automatically be emailed a recording of the workshop(s) after the event.
GENDER POLICY
The gender imbalance in the music technology industry is well-recognised. While we are absolutely not ‘anti-men’, we see that a shorter-term solution is to provide fellowship and learning environments that are not dominated by the cisgender male perspective. Therefore, these workshops are intended for women, non-binary, trans and gender non-conforming people to attend. While we do not ban cisgender men from attending, we hope that they will respect that this event is not intended for them.
ABOUT CAVENDISH
We’re the people behind the music on films like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Tolkien, & I, Tonya; TV shows including The Crown, Planet Earth, and Doctor Who; and adverts for everything from Gucci to Audi.
We started out in 1937 as Boosey & Hawkes Recorded Music Library and are the UK’s largest independent production music publisher, part of the Anthem Entertainment family. We have a catalogue of 100,000+ tracks, from all eras, in all genres. We’re the proud parents of seven labels and represent some of the world’s best music libraries. Our awards cabinet could rival the big boys’ (although we don’t like to brag), and our studio in King’s Cross is frequently booked by some of the top names in the business.
We are huge fans of Saffron, and want to do all that we can to support the organisation and all of the wonderful artists that work with them. If you’re ever in London, you’re more than welcome to use our studio in Kings Cross, or to pop in and visit us for a cup of coffee any time.
