Applications Now Open for Emerging 2024-25
Black women, non-binary and trans music creators in South West England are invited to apply for our 2024-25 artist development project.
SAFFRON’S TRANSFORMATIVE TALENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME IS BACK
We are pleased to open applications for EMERGING, the 2024-25 chapter of our Artist Development Project supporting Black music creators who are also women, non-binary, trans or gender non-conforming people.
The transformative programme, whose alumni include artists such as Marla Kether and GROVE, will equip participants in South West England with essential tools, opportunities, and comprehensive support to advance their careers. Through EMERGING, participants will develop the resilience and self-reliance needed to thrive as independent creatives in the music industry.
Successful applicants will receive funding to cover the costs of creating and self-releasing their music, in addition to 1-2-1 mentoring, peer support sessions and community masterclasses. Programme activity also includes a 5-day residential retreat in the Gloucestcire countryside, plus the opportunity to upskill on Saffron’s IRL and online educational programmes.
Why Emerging?
The latest Annenberg report shows that less than 3% of professional music producers are women, with even more dire stats for Black women, non-binary and trans folks. Saffron’s Artist Development project is designed specifically to support Black music makers in our home of South West England. The aim is to lay deeper foundations for better visibility, representation and financial benefit for Black creators, uplifting conversations about race and offering Black artists a chance to have their voices amplified.
