SHEIVA announces debut EP HEECH on Saffron Records
We’re delighted to announce the latest release on our in-house record label from London-based, British-Iranian artist SHEIVA.
This week, London-based British-Iranian artist SHEIVA announces their new EP Heech due September 4th via our in-house label, Saffron Records.
You can listen to the first single from the EP ‘Pink Skies’, from Wednesday 17th July. It’s a response to a song SHEIVA created when they were 15 and living with her grandmother, taking some lyrics from the pre-existing track and giving them a more positive and hopeful twist. They share: “I was beginning to struggle with mental health and this song was a relief for my emotions – a way to express myself in any mood helps to uplift and comfort me”.
Unrestrained, genre-defying and unapologetic, the Heech EP is a culmination of the themes of nonconformity that SHEIVA encompasses in every aspect of their life. Drawing upon their experience as a queer Brit, raised by Iranian parents in Deptford, SHEIVA’s music boasts livid lyricism paired with rule-breaking musical stylings. Through ineffaceable live performances and radio appearances, they have quickly cemented their spot as a central figure of London’s underground music scene.
With a unique way of converting feelings of rage and exasperation at the world around them into a palpable witty and playful experience for their audience, SHEIVA’s live show is a ferocious trip to a multiverse that you’ll never want to leave. As a gender-nonconforming trans-masc person who always felt like an outsider, SHEIVA is on a mission to build a more diverse moshpit “where misfits and freedom fighters can come rage”. Presenting an emotional rollercoaster that electrifies festival stages and underground venues like The White Hotel, Corsica Studios, and The Old Blue Last, they play as a band, solo, or even with their Dad reading Persian poetry.
SHEIVA’s list of collaborations speaks to the exciting musical world they inhabit: Obongjayar, Sam Akpro, James Massiah, Louis Culture, Wu-Lu, Gal.Go (King Krule), Dom Valentino (Greentea Peng, Unknown T, Ragz Originale), Ellie Rose (Goat Girl), KEYAH/BLU and more. Recognition for their unique approach to expression has come from Lauren Laverne, Lynks, Naffy, BBC Introducing, Bradley Zero, and Jess Iszatt. Stay tuned for more to come from SHEIVA.
