4 ways you can support our work this IWD
At Saffron, empowering women and gender minorities is a year-round commitment, not a day-long campaign. If you’d like to support us in creating meaningful change this International Women’s Day, here are four things you can do…
Last year, we issued a statement outlining our position on International Women’s Day, which you can find at the bottom of this page. This year, we’re continuing to advocate for lasting change over simply paying lip service to gender equality. The good news is, taking meaningful action doesn’t have to be complicated. If you’d like to join us in addressing the systemic injustices faced by women and minority communities in the music tech industry, here are four simple things you can do…
1. ORDER THE SAFFRON ‘ZINE
Last week we announced the first edition of the Saffron ‘Zine, a 24-page physical resource written by, and about, Black women and non-binary folk in music tech. Produced with the goal to empower young Black individuals, the ‘zine explores the stories of Xana, TAAHLIAH, Leslie Gaston-Bird, Josette Joseph, Geaola Adeyemi aka Princess Trium, and Zakia Sewell, documenting their perspectives, insights, and eclectic careers as DJs, producers, artists and sound engineers.
As well as distributing 3,500 free copies to schools and colleges, we’re also selling the ‘zine via our Bandcamp, with all proceeds going back into supporting our work.
2. DONATE
A key aspect of our work is striving to reach those who may not already have access financially to partake in music tech. Donating to us on a one-off or regular basis helps us ensure a portion of all our activities are completely free or pay-what-you-can. Here’s how will your money help…
£12 per month will provide a 1-year Saffron Membership Subscription
£175 will cover a fully-funded space for someone on one of our in-person courses
3. SHARE OUR INITIATIVES
Sharing our social media posts is an instant, zero-cost way to scale up our communications and help us reach as many folks as possible who might benefit from our work. Our latest announcements include the launch of our Spring Saffron for Sound courses in London, Nottingham and Bristol and our free music tech kits, which we’ll be providing to 40 Black women and non-binary music creators.
You can follow us on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube.

At Saffron, inclusivity is at the core of what we do, so it’s important to highlight that trans, non-binary and other gender non-conforming people are just as central to our work as women. In addition to International Women’s Day, please consider supporting us on International Trans Day of Visibility (31st March) and International Non-Binary People’s Day (14th July).
