Highlights from Soundpaths, our community mentoring project for emerging Black electronic music producers and DJs
EMPOWERING MARGINALISED CREATORS THROUGH MENTORING
At Saffron, we know how valuable it is for creatives to connect with other people in their community, supporting each other with creative expression and learning, whilst seeing positive role models thriving.
That’s why we partnered with Beatport to launch Soundpaths, a mentoring programme supporting Black women, non-binary, and trans individuals who are emerging electronic music producers and DJs.
The project supported 20 artists across the UK, providing personalised sessions with industry experts including Ikonika, Ehua, Pops Roberts and Glade Marie, plus three monthly group workshops on Saffron’s Digital Members Platform, featuring leaders like France Jobin, Object Blue and ML Buch.
IMPACT
The programme not only built technical skills, confidence and industry knowledge to thrive in a competitive field, but also fostered supportive connections.
Participants secured gigs, landed a role as a radio producer at Rinse, and embraced new opportunities. They completed tracks in Ableton, created press kits, and expanded their industry connections. One standout launched a successful livestream show and received invaluable feedback, demonstrating the transformative impact of Soundpaths in empowering their careers and promoting inclusivity in electronic music.
In the video above, we look back on the project and explore the stories of some of our programme participants and mentors.
