Seeds of Change: Why Make Art When the World is Hurting? w/ Evan Ifekoya

Presented in response to the widescale humanitarian crises and injustices playing out across the globe, Seeds of Change is a three-part series of online workshops and discussions to fuel the intersection of music and activism. Hosted by Saffron and open to all who would like to participate, these sessions will offer a soft space to ask hard questions and galvanise each other towards meaningful change.
WORKSHOP 1: (RESOURCE) WHY MAKE ART WHEN THE WORLD IS HURTING?
What difference can sound and music make in today’s fractious world? In what ways can creative practices serve as rituals, returning us to resonance? This workshop explores how working with specific frequencies, rhythms and elemental forces can function as tools of sanctuary and resistance in times of uncertainty, grief, anxiety and overwhelm. Drawing from ancestral traditions and spiritual technologies, we’ll journey together through listening, storytelling, embodiment, and collective sonic creation.
Participants are requested to signal their attendance by booking a free ticket via Eventbrite or registering on the Saffron Members portal. Those who wish to contribute financially to their participation have the option to make a donation upon sign-up, with all proceeds going to M.A.P.
ABOUT EVAN IFEKOYA
Evan Ifekoya is a Spirit led artist. Their work reflects a continual process of transformation, archiving, and self exploration. Bridging the gap between the past and the present, ritual and reality and non linear time – offering new ways to see, feel, and understand the world and our relationship to the natural environment. Through sonic led creative practice, they hope to foster a deeper sense of connection, belonging, and awareness, creating spaces where liberation and refuge are not just ideals but lived experiences.
They established the collectively run and QTIBPOC (queer, trans*, intersex, black and people of colour) led Black Obsidian Sound System (B.O.S.S.) in 2018. Recent projects include: ‘Resonant Frequencies’ in Feel The Sound at Barbican London (2025) and the upcoming experimental documentary film ‘MODUPE’ supported by BFI Docs Society and Elephant Trust.
ACCESS
Each of the gatherings in this series will be delivered via Saffron’s online community platform, but can be accessed for free by individuals of all genders and locations.
Workshops are open to people worldwide, but will be running at 7.30 pm UK time, so please bear differences in time zone in mind. If you book a ticket but aren’t able to attend live, you will automatically be emailed a recording of the workshop(s) after the event.
