Mix Nights

Mix Nights is Saffron’s dynamic DJ initiative, allowing women and non-binary people to develop DJ skills in an encouraging, safe and welcoming environment. Each nine-week course culminates with a showcase at a local venue, where the DJ graduates are given the opportunity to play their first set in public. To build further visibility and community for women and non-binary people DJing, Mix Nights also hosts Open Decks sessions, MN Series club nights and a Noods Radio residency.

Courses are currently on hold until COVID-19 restrictions are sufficiently eased.

Tech Dissect

Tech Dissect launched in London in November 2019 as an all-day gathering for women and non-binary people interested in music tech. Comprising workshops and talks from industry leaders, the day cultivated a space that inspired creativity and connection, bringing together people of all ages and experiences. Tech Dissect also now exists online, with standalone music tech workshops recently hosted by Emmavie, Yazzus and object blue.

Artist Development

Supported by Red Bull music and the PRS Foundation as one of their Talent Development Partners, Saffron works with three emerging artists each year. We provide them with industry mentoring, live bookings support, access to our music tech education programs and the opportunity to record and release their music through our own independent label.

We aim to help women and non-binary artists grow their leadership skills and strategic vision to take full creative control of their music careers. Artists we have worked with include Grove, HANAH, Badliana, Mercy’s Cartel, Beula, Ngaio and China Bowls.

Saffron Records

Our in-house independent record label showcases the music created from our artist development programme, alongside other women and non-binary people acts from around the globe. The label’s “sound” stretches from neo-soul, afrobeat and spoken-word to ambient, electronica and club. Listen to and support recent releases from Saffron Records on Bandcamp and Spotify.

Members Club

Saffron Members is a digital member’s club providing year-round tools and opportunities for women and non-binary people to connect, learn and grow in music tech. The ongoing repercussions of COVID-19 compelled us to look at more concrete methods of supporting our global community, as well as ensuring a sustainable future for Saffron. Monthly subscriptions are available for women and non-binary people to purchase for themselves, or for anyone to purchase as an ally and “pay it forward”. A number of free bursary subscriptions have also kindly been made possible by Abbey Road Studios and Ableton.
