5 music tech skills you’ll learn at 7 Days of Sound 2022

January is here and there’s no better way to spend it than by hunkering down and learning some new skills. Luckily, 7 DAYS OF SOUND, Saffron’s annual digital festival is right around the corner, and we’ve got a stacked lineup of music tech workshops for you to get stuck into.

If you’re looking to level up your music career in 2022 or simply try something new, then here are just a few of the things you can learn by attending this year’s event…

1. HOW TO DESIGN UNIQUE SOUNDS

7 Day of Sound host Rachel K Collier designing sounds using Ableton

Developing the ability to design your own sounds is one of the attributes that will set you apart as an electronic music producer. One woman who knows all about this is Ableton certified trainer, Rachel K Collier, whose song-focused, high-energy studio productions have attracted support and attention from BBC 1 Xtra, Arturia, Korg, Teenage Engineering and Yamaha. Join her on Day 7, when she’ll be giving us an insight into how she creates distinctive sounds from simple and often surprising sources.

2. HOW TO PRODUCE PERSONALITY-PACKED RADIO SHOWS

NTS radio's Anu hosts 7 Days of Sound workshop

If you’re a DJ, producer or musician of any kind, getting involved in radio is a great way to express yourself and build a dialogue with your audience – but how do develop a show that stands out? On Day 4, NTS Radio resident Anu will be sharing some advice around creating radio shows with personality. She’ll talk through her approach incorporating multiple creative practices. She’ll also touch on how she translates the music she plays into visual art.

3. HOW TO BUILD YOUR DJ PROFILE AND FOLLOWING

Mix Nights co-creator Daisy Moon shares next steps for DJs at 7 Days of Sound

If you know how to mix but aren’t sure where to go from here, then this workshop is for you. On Day 4, Em Williams and Daisy Moon, the co-creators of our beginner DJ course and community, Mix Nights, will be delivering a workshop on next steps for DJs. In this one-off session, they’ll be covering everything from self-promotion and networking to producing mixes and radio shows. Trust us, your future self will thank you for attending!

4. HOW TO BREATHE NEW LIFE INTO OLD TRACKS

Music producer finds fresh inspiration in unfinished tracks

Got a heap of unfinished tracks on your hard drive? Don’t worry, you’re not the only one! Rather than opening up another new project file, why not sign up for our workshop with Pops Roberts? On Day 7, the producer, performer and Ableton certified trainer will be showing us how to make use of our discarded ideas and develop unfinished projects into full-blown masterpieces.

Check out Pops’ latest projects on Instagram.

5. HOW TO MAKE MUSIC USING MOOG SYNTHESISERS

Lisa Bella Donna delivers Moog synthesiser workshop at 7 Days of Sound

If you’re interested in making music with hardware, then Moog Music’s semi-modular synthesizers are an essential tool to explore. On Day 5, recording artist, composer and modular synthesis wizard Lisa Bella Donna will be introducing us to these amazing pieces of kit. Discover the range and depth of Moogs, how to quickly navigate and interconnect them as well as interface them with your DAW and other synths. Lisa will share some of her production tips around recording, processing, and properly mixing modern Moogs and unveil some of the magic and fun of modular synthesis and multi-timbral sequencing.

Listen to Lisa’s music on Bandcamp.
