MANIPULATING SOUND FOR TIMBRAL & PERCUSSIVE USES
What if we manipulated drum hits and created sounds beyond their primary function as percussion? What if we convey rhythm with non-drum sounds or long timbral samples? In this online workshop, object blue will dissect her Ableton files focussing on sample manipulation and sequencing, as well as editing found sounds sent in from participants. What could we make when we remove sound from preconceived notions of what it should do in the track?

ABOUT OBJECT BLUE
Born in Tokyo, raised in Beijing and now resident in London, object blue is one of the most exciting new voices in experimental club music, her limber live sets blending techno and sound design in a way that’s both cerebral and body-moving. Since storming onto the scene in 2018 with her TT released debut EP Do you plan to end a siege? and follow up REX on Let’s Go Swimming, in 2019 object blue has been in all the right places.
From composing the music for Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood SS20 and performing it live Paris Fashion Week, to unforgettable shows including performances at Dimensions, Dekmantel, Sonar Hong Kong, Retextured Festival, Primavera Sound, Simple Things, RedBull Music Festival London (where she debuted the FIGURE BESIDE ME live show, a 360-degree audio-visual installation created with Natalia Podgorksa) and more – the London-based producer, DJ and live artist also unveiled her most personal body of work to date and highly anticipated self-released third EP, FIGURE BESIDE ME.
She hasn’t stopped there, this past year has seen object blue remix everyone from Murlo, Seb Wildblood and Jasper James and seen her sweep the end of year lists from Mixmag to CRACK. Having been selected as one of SoundCloud’s 10 Global Artists to watch for 2020 as well as a SHAPE Artist for 2020, object blue charges into the new year counting fans in the likes of RA, DAZED, i-D, TANK, Groove, Pitchfork and Benji B on BBC Radio 1 (whom she did a highly praised guest mix for) and more.

Access to these sessions is free for members of Saffron’s online community, Saffron Members Club. Saffron Membership starts at just £5.50 per month and provides access to regular online workshops, an online community space, video masterclasses, free music tech tools, discounts and much more.
We never want money to be a barrier to people accessing music tech, so if you are unable to afford a ticket but believe you would benefit from attending these workshops, please email us on members@saffronmusic.co.uk.
Workshops are open to people worldwide, but will be running at 7.30 pm GMT so please bear differences in time zone in mind. If you purchase a ticket but are unable to attend live, you will automatically be emailed a recording of the workshop(s) after the event.

While we are absolutely not ‘anti-men’, we see that a shorter-term solution is to provide fellowship and learning environments that are not dominated by the cisgender male perspective. Therefore, these workshops are intended for women, non-binary, trans and gender non-conforming people to attend. While we do not ban cisgender men from attending, we hope that they will respect that this event is not intended for them.
