PROCESS AND PLAY IN PRODUCTION
What would you create if you knew you couldn’t fail?
In our March digital workshop, we’ll be letting go of results and embracing the power of play in electronic music production.
Guided by Swedish artist Elin Piel, we’ll explore iterative, process-led approaches to music-making and the potential these present to reinvigorate a creative practice.
Over the course of two hours, Elin will demonstrate aspects of her workflow and talk about how creating in between the cracks of everyday life has given rise to her full-time music career.
We’ll take a behind-the-scenes look at her personal setup before experimenting together with sound manipulation in a low-pressure, intuitive way. The focus will be on sharing strategies and mindset shifts that can support you – whatever your setup.
This workshop is ideal for any producers who are feeling overwhelmed, struggling with creative block, or simply looking to open up new avenues for their music-making. Some experience with music production is recommended – though not required – to attend.
Think you would benefit from this session, but can’t afford to contribute? We have a few bursary spaces in this workshop for those in financial hardship. We trust these will be taken by those who need them. Email us at members@saffronmusic.co.uk to request one.
ABOUT ELIN PIEL
Elin Piel is an electronic musician from Gothenburg, Sweden, who creates sonic worlds of rhythmic, repetitive sound landscapes. Piel takes our hand and leads way through widespread and dreamy paths in her synthesized and polyrhythmic pastures. One second Elin makes the listener feel weightless in her hopeful cloud of sound – in the next shifting the gravity of the sound image and opens the door to serious and deep thought.

GENDER POLICY
The gender imbalance in the music technology industry is well-recognised. While we are absolutely not ‘anti-men’, we see that a shorter-term solution is to provide fellowship and learning environments that are not dominated by the cisgender male perspective. Therefore, these workshops are intended for women, non-binary, trans and gender non-conforming people to attend. While we do not ban cisgender men from attending, we hope that they will respect that this event is not intended for them.
