Mix Nights Online: Editing mixes in Ableton w/ Private Joy

22nd May 2025

7.30 pm BST

£8.30 or free for sustainer & soulmate Saffron members

This summer, Saffron is delighted to team up with Rhythm Section for a special, three-month edition of MIX NIGHTS ONLINE — our flagship DJ workshop series for women, trans, nonbinary and gender non-conforming people. View the full lineup.

WORKSHOP 1: EDITING & FINAL TOUCHES TO MIXES IN ABLETON

Hosted by Rhythm Section’s Private Joy, this online workshop is for DJs who want to take their recorded mixes and give them a clean, professional finish

Using the DAW Ableton Live, we’ll cover how to build your set, make transitions, and use effects (like reverb, delay, and filters) to enhance flow and energy.  We’ll also look at post-production tips, before opening the floor to questions.

Whether you’re uploading a mix online or creating something more curated, this session will walk you through the practical steps to get it sounding polished and cohesive.

ABOUT PRIVATE JOY

Heralded for her charismatic, “soulful allure”,  critically-acclaimed producer and vocalist Private Joy aka Pops Roberts is becoming well known for powerful contributions to both boudoirs and dancefloors.

Her debut EP “Desire!” released on the legendary Rhythm Section in 2024, firmed her place in the UK soul scene with song-writing that references every shade of retro and modern R&B in abundance; and bold production that is as eclectic as it is unique…most notably her G-Funk re-imagining of The Colours That Rise’s ‘Deep Space’ released in late 2024.

As a live performer, Private Joy remains forever versatile and a ‘vocal-chameleon’ with hybrid DJ sets, live PAs, or full harp-drenched street-soul band.

We are committed to making our online events as accessible as possible. We have created a guidance document about this – Click here to view the accessibility document. Alternatively, please email us with any access requirements you may have.

GENDER POLICY

The gender imbalance in the music technology industry is well-recognised. While we are absolutely not ‘anti-men’, we see that a shorter-term solution is to provide fellowship and learning environments that are not dominated by the cisgender male perspective. Therefore, these workshops are intended for women, non-binary, trans and gender non-conforming people to attend. While we do not ban cisgender men from attending, we hope that they will respect that this event is not intended for them.
