WORKSHOP 2: SELECTOR TO LABEL CURATOR

Thinking of starting a label? This workshop is for DJs ready to take the next step.

Being a selector is already a powerful form of curation — but taking that beyond your personal identity to represent a broader artistic vision can feel like a daunting leap.

In this session, we’ll explore the foundational steps of developing your identity within the label landscape — from defining the core values and ethos you want to convey, through to making artistic and sonic choices that bring that vision to life.

Drawing on nine years of experience running Rhythm Section International, along with MLE’s own journey as a producer and curator, this workshop is aimed at those transitioning from selector to label founder

We’ll examine how these roles overlap and diverge, and look at both the creative and practical aspects of building a label from the ground up.

ABOUT MLE

MLE is a Radio host, DJ AND producer based in Berlin. Cutting her teeth in the music industry by working at London institution Sounds of the Universe, she is now the Rhythm Section International label manager and occasionally at On Loop Records.

MLE’’s debut EP in collaboration with DJ Pitch – Cheap Gifts For Your Boyfriend’ was released via All Centre in April 2024 with support from Moxie, Tom Ravenscroft and She Spells Doom.

GENDER POLICY

The gender imbalance in the music technology industry is well-recognised. While we are absolutely not ‘anti-men’, we see that a shorter-term solution is to provide fellowship and learning environments that are not dominated by the cisgender male perspective. Therefore, these workshops are intended for women, non-binary, trans and gender non-conforming people to attend. While we do not ban cisgender men from attending, we hope that they will respect that this event is not intended for them.
