CREATING WITH AUTHENTICITY
Saffron’s monthly workshops are part of the Saffron Members Club, but non-members who are women, non-binary people, trans or gender non-conforming folks may also purchase a ticket.
Record collector and DJ Millie McKee will be hosting a workshop and discussion about finding your style musically, owning it, and allowing yourself to evolve in the process.
She’ll be touching on ideas around self-validation vs external validation, how by being yourself and harnessing your true essence you will naturally create something unique, the value of ‘feeling’ instead of ‘thinking’ your way through creative decisions, and how authenticity and truth can be applied to any taste and style.
During the workshop she’ll be hosting a guided meditation, journaling prompts, and other exercises to support attendees to explore and distill what they want to express creatively.
In this session Millie will touch on:
- Creative growth: navigating the natural desire to evolve how to not get in your own way.
- Not getting stuck in a genre box: developing the confidence to challenge and surprise
- The practice of playing the music you love and connecting with an audience
- Taking inspiration from others whilst retaining your own sense of uniqueness.
- How mental health & nervous system regulation supports you in creating authentically
- Personas: choosing a name, embracing multiple personalities / ‘modes’ within your music
- The importance of the gigs that don’t go so well and how to learn from them
- Being present with yourself to tap into what is unique about what you do
ABOUT MILLIE MCKEE
Millie McKee is an ever-growing digger and music selector based in London, UK. Her relentless, no-bounds approach to music has resulted in an impressive knowledge and understanding of jazz, rock, dub, psychedelia, and more.
The recent success of her My Analog Journal mix has enchanted the world with her eclectic, open-hearted style. Her 12-month residency at the legendary Love Inn in Bristol, consisting of a 7-hour set every month, has proven her abilities in curation, flow, and doing something different in a space that is typically dominated by electronic music.
She’s fearless in her exploration of what defines ‘dance music’, and continues to challenge audiences to embrace sonic diversity. Her widely celebrated show on Noods Radio has made her one of the station’s most notable residents. A bedroom collector for 7+ years, but only DJing for 2 years, she’s already graced the stages of Love Saves the Day, Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party and more, as well as holding down regular shows at London’s and Bristol’s most progressive underground venues.
Her philosophy towards DJing resides in a deep, quasi-spiritual soulfulness, marked by the unexpected and tied together with organic seams.
