Have you ever wondered how to weave together the different strands of your artistic identity? Would you like help tuning into your essence to express yourself in a way that leaves a distinct impression?

Join us for our July Tech Dissect workshop, in which Tlya X An will share her approach to self-expression through music, performance and visuals.

In this session, we will explore the importance of developing a deeper understanding of who you are as an artist, and also how to hold this process lightly to allow for creative flow and ongoing evolution.

Tlya X An will explain her approach to creating new music and content with maximum originality, allowing her unique essence to come through. Using her EP ‘TXN’ [Spinny Nights] as a case study, she will show how she develops a through-thread between her music, videos and live shows, maintaining a cohesive identity both sonically and visually throughout all the different elements.

As well as having the opportunity to ask questions and participate in interactive discussions/exercises you will come away from the session with: guidance around progressing in your journey of expressing your true self through your art / music / visuals, tips on how to stay organised and manage your projects as an independent artist, an awareness of the benefits of taking what you do seriously but not taking yourself too seriously.

Tlya X An (TXN) is an enigmatic Alternative pop producer and vocalist known for her raw and captivating style. Seamlessly traversing the realms of hyperpop, early 2000s R&B and glitchy electronica, her music weaves silky melodies atop intricate beats and pulsating basslines.

Tlya moved to Bristol at the age of 17, swiftly establishing herself as an unstoppable creative force within the city. Wearing multiple hats as a director, editor, composer, singer, performer and Visual artist. She fearlessly explores her artistic depths, baring her soul to the world.

Driven by an unyielding desire to shatter taboos, Tlya X An is unquestionably an ascending force in the music industry. Her latest singles ‘Mi Mind Unknown’ & YDKM [You Don’t Know Me], came out this Spring, receiving support from BBC 6 Music, BBC Introducing, Gaydio, Bristol 24/7, Crack Magazine, Amazing Radio, System Failure Magazine amongst others.

Her debut EP ‘TXN’, released in 2023 on the label Spinny Nights, generated widespread acclaim, receiving support from BBC Radio 1 (Jack Saunders’ Future Artists, BBC Introducing with Gemma Bradley), BBC Radio 6 Music (Mary Anne-Hobbs, Tom Ravenscroft, Steve Lamacq, Grove), BBC Introducing in the West (becoming ‘Sound of the Weekend’ and ‘Spotlight Artist’), Selector and Gaydio amongst other. Notable publications, including METAL Magazine, Wax Music, The Most Radicalist and Bristol 24/7, have also acclaimed her unique sound.

In the past year alone, TXN has electrified audiences at renowned festivals and venues across the country, including Dot to Dot, Bristol Harbour Festival, Dream Bags Jaguar Shoes, Thekla, The Social, George Tavern, Bristol Beacon, Dareshack, The Fleece, Moles and more. Playing alongside names such as PVA, Haru Nemuri, Yeule, Haiku Hands, AR/CO and more, and with each performance, Tlya X An solidified her position as an unstoppable rising star, fueling her drive to leave an indelible impact on the world stage.

The gender imbalance in the music technology industry is well-recognised. While we are absolutely not ‘anti-men’, we see that a shorter-term solution is to provide fellowship and learning environments that are not dominated by the cisgender male perspective. Therefore, these workshops are intended for women, non-binary, trans and gender non-conforming people to attend. While we do not ban cisgender men from attending, we hope that they will respect that this event is not intended for them.
