SAMPLING THE SOUNDS OF CLIMATE CHANGE
We are delighted to welcome award-winning artist, activist and Harvard MBA graduate, Madame Gandhi to host Saffron’s final Tech Dissect workshop of 2024.
In this session, Gandhi will discuss the creative process and inspiration behind her track “In Purpose”, a song produced for the planet, in collaboration with nature. With reference to her SPLICE sample pack, “Antartica“ (made in partnership with Sound MANA) and her involvement with the EarthPercent Sounds Right initiative, she will talk about how she samples the sounds of climate change and reworks them into innovative musical soundscapes.
Whether you’re an artist looking to build a more environmentally engaged practice or a climate advocate interested in using music to motivate behaviour change, come along to be inspired, ask questions and connect with our worldwide community.
ABOUT MADAME GANDHI
Madame Gandhi is an award-winning artist and activist known for her uplifting, percussive electronic music and positive message about gender liberation and personal power. She has been listed as a TED Fellow, Forbes 30 Under 30 in Music and BBC 100 Women.
She began producing music in 2015, after her story running the London Marathon free-bleeding to combat menstrual stigma went viral around the world. She has toured drumming for artists M.I.A and Thievery Corporation, and her song “The Future is Female” reached the global viral Spotify Top 50 US charts.
In June of 2022, Gandhi completed a Masters in Music Science & Technology at Stanford University’s CCRMA where she spent time in Antarctica sampling the sounds of glaciers melting to create empathy and awareness around climate change. She was awarded the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame “Olman Prize” for excellence in songwriting and leadership.
