Online workshop: Approaching Indie Labels w/ Lizzy Ellis

28th October 2026

7-9 PM GMT

£10 or free for Saffron members

Saffron is delighted to present the Octoberinstalment of its ‘Saffron Members Club‘ online workshop programme. For women, trans, and non-binary people worldwide.

APPROACHING INDIE LABELS

Join Saffron’s own Lizzy Ellis for an online workshop exploring the indie label landscape.

In this session, we’ll begin with some self-reflection to guide you towards understanding your goals as an artist, and how an independent label may or may not be able to support you.

We’ll talk about the benefits and compromises that can be involved with signing to a label, drawing on the experiences of other artists further along the line.

We’ll then move onto mapping out the indie label scene, with a view to helping you chart out your own creative journey. We’ll think about outreach strategies and relationship-building, and touch on some best practices around submitting your music.

This will be an interactive session, with lots of space for discussion and a Q&A at the end.

ABOUT LIZZY ELLIS

Lizzy is Saffron’s Managing Director and has been at the helm of our in-house label since its inception. Alongside her husband, Pinch, Lizzy also runs the seminal dubstep label Tectonic Recordings, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2025.

Lizzy brings a wealth of experience both as an artist scout and advocate. Before her time at Saffron, she spent 10 years working in artist management with artists including Bonobo, Photek, Kelis, and Jordan Rakei. She has also been the label manager for Shanti Celeste’s Peach Discs, and Moxie’s On Loop. As a selector, she shares her eclectic tastes via a monthly Noods Radio show under her DJ moniker, Proverb.

We are committed to making our online events as accessible as possible. We have created a guidance document about this. Alternatively, please email us with any access requirements you may have.

GENDER POLICY

The gender imbalance in the music technology industry is well-recognised. While we are absolutely not ‘anti-men’, we see that a shorter-term solution is to provide fellowship and learning environments that are not dominated by the cisgender male perspective. Therefore, these workshops are intended for women, non-binary, trans and gender non-conforming people to attend. While we do not ban cisgender men from attending, we hope that they will respect that this event is not intended for them.

A NOTE ABOUT RECORDING

To support the learning of participants who are unable to join live, Saffron will be recording this workshop. Participants will be reminded at the start that the session is being recorded, and have the choice whether to have their cameras on, or to participate via audio or in the chat.  The recording will be shared privately with Saffron members and ticket holders, and will not be made public.
