KICKSTARTING A DIGITAL LABEL

Starting a label can be a powerful step for artists and DJs looking to cultivate a community and shape a distinct sonic identity, so we invited Woozy founder, EMA, to show you how!

Founded in 2020, Woozy is EMA’s label and party series celebrating the sounds and DJs of modern soundsystem culture. In this relaxed, online session, EMA will provide an intro to her imprint before sharing her key pointers to consider before starting a label yourself.

We will then explore EMA’s 12 steps to putting out a digital release, including curation, budgeting, terms, scheduling, PR, payouts and more before closing the session with a Q&A.

“My goal is to encourage and hopefully inspire those who may have an interest in starting their own label and try to break down any preconceived barriers to entry!” – EMA

GENDER POLICY

The gender imbalance in the music technology industry is well-recognised. While we are absolutely not ‘anti-men’, we see that a shorter-term solution is to provide fellowship and learning environments that are not dominated by the cisgender male perspective. Therefore, these workshops are intended for women, non-binary, trans and gender non-conforming people to attend. While we do not ban cisgender men from attending, we hope that they will respect that this event is not intended for them.
