MAKING MIXES SING: INTRODUCING VOCAL PERFORMANCE TO YOUR DJ SET

South East London DJ & vocalist Ell Murphy has been making waves with her multi-genre mixes & vocal features, singing live behind the decks, to deliver a unique performance style. 

Join her for our first Mix Nights Online workshop of the year, in which she’ll be talking about her journey as a singer and a DJ and how she’s brought these two elements together. Streaming live from Pirate Studios, she’ll break down her performance style and setup,  sharing tips for how you can mix things up to make your DJ sets a bit different. She’ll also give a live demo before opening the session up to questions.

ABOUT ELL MURPHY

You can catch Ell’s high energy selections across the UK and beyond, with notable sets for Fabric, Hör Berlin, Outlook & Keep Hush. Also featured in Clash Magazine’s ’23 Artists who will make 2023 their own’, with her latest vocal feature ‘Bloom’, with producer Mafro blowing up the airwaves, most recently featuring as BBC Radio 1 Dance Hottest Record. 

Over the past 18 months, Ell has collaborated with some of the most promising new talent in UK dance, including features with TSHA, Giulia Tess, Gemi, YUQT, LUXE & DJ Crisps – with releases on Shall Not Fade, Locked On Records & Kiwi Sounds – receiving widespread, continued support from the Radio 1 Dance team including Danny Howard, Sarah Story & Jaguar. Her recent single ‘OBFC’, came out on ‘All Thru the Night’ – a compilation curated by Interplanetary Criminal, to celebrate 25 years of garage label Locked On – received support across the board from Radio 1 Dance, Mixmag & RA. 2022 also saw the growth of her collective Team Woibey, featuring rising selectors Mixtress, ohmydais & Fae – securing a monthly residency on Foundation FM & multiple festival bookings. With forthcoming vocal features and her next solo EP in the works for release later this year, Ell is also currently developing her live show and planning a busy year of shows across the UK & Europe.
