COMMUNITY CLINIC THEME: GIGS
Mix Nights community clinic is an online space for women, trans and gender non-conforming DJs to ask questions, share experiences and build links. If you’re an emerging DJ looking to expand what you do, come along to get input and support from your peers, share resources and opportunities and learn some new techniques. The session will be facilitated by DJ and Mix Nights co-creator, Daisy Moon, who will also be on hand to offer her mentorship.
The session will start with a check-in, offering everyone a chance to introduce themselves. We will then use the remainder of the session to work through as many discussion points as possible. The theme of this session will be GIGS. We’ll be talking about:
- How to get more of them (reaching out to agents/promoters/bookers)
- How to prepare for them (music organisation and rekordbox)
- Responding to the needs of the space
- What to do when a gig goes wrong
- Professionalism and relationship-building
Want to connect with the community but don’t have a challenge to bring? It can be just as rewarding (and enlightening) to listen to other people’s questions feed in with your responses. There will also be an opportunity to share social links towards the end of the session so that you can stay in touch afterwards.
ABOUT DAISY MOON
Proving futurism can also be fun, Saffron mentor and Mix Nights Co-creator, Daisy Moon strikes out into the frontier of club music with an even split of head-twisting sonics and heart-rending charm.
As a producer, Daisy has demonstrated her range from the most upfront party flair to exquisite experimentalism. Her EP on Shanti Celeste and Gramrcy’s Peach Discs, System Creak, was bursting with peak time energy shot through with a maverick glint, while her melancholic broken beat excursion ‘Reflections On A Flower Garden’ was picked for the Curl Compilation 2 curated by Mica Levi, Coby Sey and Brother May.
The scope of Daisy’s musicality extends to her DJ sets, which reliably lean on uptempo energy while ducking and diving into hidden pockets of dance music culture. Her scores of mixes for platforms like Crack, Fact, Daisychain or Untitled 909 are matched by her appearances at Fabric, Tresor, The White Hotel, Love International and Dimensions as outlets for the tweaked, playful club gear she holds dear.
There’s a gleefully disruptive spirit in Daisy’s selections which extends to Off-Kilter, her mix and event series. The ever-evolving concept is a showcase for under-represented artists probing at the fringes, in and outside the dance music sphere. That leaves the possibilities comfortably open for where Daisy takes the project next, indulging her curiosity and following her instinct for infectious energy.
ACCESSIBILITY
We never want money to be a barrier to people accessing music tech, so if you are unable to afford a ticket but believe you would benefit from attending these workshops, please email us on members@saffronmusic.co.uk.
Workshops are open to people worldwide, but will be running at 7.30 pm UK-time so please bear differences in timezone in mind. If you purchase a ticket but are unable to attend live, you will automatically be emailed a recording of the workshop(s) after the event.
We are committed to making our online events as accessible as possible. We have created a guidance document about this. Click here to view the accessibility document. Alternatively, please email us with any access requirements you may have: hello@saffronmusic.co.uk
GENDER POLICY
The gender imbalance in the music technology industry is well-recognised. While we are absolutely not ‘anti-men’, we see that a shorter-term solution is to provide fellowship and learning environments that are not dominated by the cisgender male perspective. Therefore, these workshops are intended for women, non-binary, trans and gender non-conforming people to attend. While we do not ban cisgender men from attending, we hope that they will respect that this event is not intended for them.
