Bassist, DJ and producer Marla Kether launches her debut self-produced EP in London at Ninety One Living Room. Expect a seamless blend of musical genres, marrying groove and driving basslines with Afrobeat and Congolese Soukous. Special guests include live artist Plumm & DJ Babajide Tikare.

ABOUT MARLA KETHER

London-born to Congolese parents, Marla Kether is a bassist, DJ and producer based in Bristol and London. Having cut her musical teeth doing session work and tours with Yazmin Lacey, Oscar Jerome, Loyle Carner and Obongjayar, Marla is now taking centre stage and establishing herself as a solo artist for the first time since starting to produce music in lockdown 2020, fuelled by a desire to use the time away from touring to develop her own musical identity.

With the backing of Saffron Records, Marla will be releasing a self-produced global dance EP on November 1st 2023, preceded by 4 singles with features including Onipa frontman K.O.G, Snazzback collaborator Solomon O.B, and Arlo Parks’ keys player MADELEINE. Her releases showcase her remarkable ability to seamlessly blend diverse musical genres and influences into her music; marrying Theo Parrish-style groove and driving baselines with Afrobeat and Congolese Soukous, drawn from from her unique and extensive experience.

ABOUT PLUMM

Plumm is a genre-bending, stage-strutting vocalist, composer, multi-instrumentalist and bandleader hailing from South London with proud Welsh heritage.

After playing at BBC Maida Vale Studios with Moses Boyd for BBC 1Xtra, championed by BBC Introducing London, and playing with Taylor McFerrin in Hackney; Plumm has just sold out at The Jazz Cafe interpreting Led Zeppelin. Plumm’s shows have created a buzz within the ever-growing London scene with her varying arrangements; a full force eclectic Rock/Jazz band, an electronic duo; Plumm x skttrd – a buffet of live loops and drum machines blurring the line between DJ and live improv as well as being part of larger collectives such as Levitation Orchestra. She is being claimed as one of the most creative and exciting singers coming out of London.

For this event, Plumm will be bringing her Glastonbury set – an enchanting solo performance, building sound worlds of harmony and texture using only the voice.

ABOUT BABAJIDE TIKARE

Photographer, DJ and founder of ‘Don’t Touch My Fro!’, Babajide has an ear for groovy bass-lines, with selections ranging from 70s Highlife, Kwaito and Italo Disco to percussive techno, house and acid. An open minded DJ with an eclectic palette grounded in the idea that nothing is off the table, he has brought his sets to venues across London as well as featuring monthly on Balamii radio and making guest appearances on Rinse FM and NTS.
