AN INTRO TO IMMERSIVE AUDIO
Immersive (or spatial) audio reproduces sound around the listener to create a 360-degree experience. It is becoming a mainstream format in the modern music industry, yet it can often feel like a mysterious or inaccessible technology. In this workshop, sound artist Natalia Mamcarczyk will introduce us to the basics of immersive audio, inviting us to experience the technology in our own homes, before sharing some steps towards creating our own 3D sonic worlds. Through a mixture of presentation, discussion and group exercises we will cover:
- What is spatial audio?
- Demystifying spatial audio creation
- Differences from standard audio production
- Accessible ways to get started
- Artist/project case studies
- Spaces and communities to engage with
- How Audioscenic is widening access to spatial audio

GENDER POLICY
The gender imbalance in the music technology industry is well-recognised. While we are absolutely not ‘anti-men’, we see that a shorter-term solution is to provide fellowship and learning environments that are not dominated by the cisgender male perspective. Therefore, these workshops are intended for women, non-binary, trans and gender non-conforming people to attend. While we do not ban cisgender men from attending, we hope that they will respect that this event is not intended for them.
A NOTE ABOUT RECORDING
To support the learning of participants who are unable to join live, Saffron will be recording this workshop. Participants will be reminded of this at the start of the session and can choose whether to have their cameras on, or to participate via audio or in the chat. The recording will be shared privately with Saffron members and ticket holders after the workshop. It will not be made public.
