Introducing ‘Forward in Sound’ our new career development project for aspiring sound engineers

Find out more about our new training and paid work placement initiative for aspiring sound engineers.

We’re delighted to announce the launch of ‘Forward in Sound’ – a fully-funded audio careers development project in partnership with Resident Advisor, Doors Open and London-based PA/Sound system hire company Sound Services

Open to women, trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming people, the initiative will see 6 participants undertake a bespoke sound engineering course developed by Saffron and Sound Services and fully funded by Doors Open and Resident Advisor.

WHAT’S INCLUDED?

On the course participants will learn everything from the very basics of live sound theory, DJ equipment set-up, live band setup, live mixing techniques, preparing and testing equipment, safe loading and unloading, and full system setup. They will then graduate onto paid work placements with Sound Services and a London venue of their choice where they will get hands-on experience in all areas of engineering, supported by experts in the field.

COURSE OVERVIEW

The first three days of training will take place at Strongroom Bar where you will learn about various sound set-ups and the technicality of sound in a live setting. The below course units are what’s included in this part of the training.

For the last two days of training, you will be immersed in the operation of an audio equipment warehouse and preparing for your final day gaining practical experience in a live music venue (E1 Nightclub).

WHO’S IT FOR?

The initiative is open to anyone aged 18 or over who identifies as a woman, non-binary, trans or gender non-forming, and has little to no experience in sound engineering. Priority will be given to those without degree-level education and those from low-income households.

Year one of Forward in Sound will act as a pilot with the hope of repeating the project annually.
